Christmas tour of the unique collection of historical microscopes on the Campus Berlin-Buch

The history of medical research in Berlin-Buch is impressively presented in the Museum of the Campus Berlin-Buch. Scientific instruments from a century of biomedical research are on display in the Oskar and Cécile Vogt House. The integrated exhibition “Invisible–Visible–Understood” illustrates the unique connection between science and the optical industry that developed in the Berlin-Brandenburg region at the beginning of the 19th century. In the first half of the 19th century, the cell theory was developed in Berlin: it states that cells are the fundamental elements of all tissues in plants and animals. This could only be established with the help of microscopes. As a result, a new industry emerged in Berlin — microscope manufacturing.

Discover the beginnings of Berlin’s microscope production and its influence on modern biomedicine. Neuroscientist Prof. Dr. Helmut Kettenmann will guide you through the microscope exhibition at the Max Delbrück Communications Center (MDC.C) and the collection in the Campus Museum. Afterwards, we invite you to join us for a festive drink and some Christmas cookies.
