Work & Life Balance

Balancing family and work in academia or any other job on campus can be a challenging task. To make it easier, there are many offers that support families on Campus Berlin-Buch, from the campus day care center to a parent-child room to researcher holidays.

Campus Day Care Center

The Campus Day Care Center CampusSterne offers care in mixed-age groups for 58 children from 0 to 6 years of age on the Berlin-Buch campus. The educational concept includes integration and English for toddlers and preschoolers. The daycare center is run by the Sehstern e.V.

Researcher Holidays

During the Berlin school holidays, children can experiment on various science topics in the school labs under expert guidance. The researcher holidays offer half-day and full-day courses on biology, chemistry, physics and technical topics that are appropriate for the age group.

Children aged 6 to 12 are supervised by scientists as group leaders throughout the day. In the morning course, experiments are usually carried out in the laboratory. After a lunch break, there are craft and play activities on the same topic. www.forscherferien-berlin.de

Health and Work-Life Balance

The Max Delbrück Center for Molecular Medicine and the Leibniz-Forschungsinstitut für Molekulare Pharmakologie attach particular importance to supporting their employees in balancing work and family life. The well-developed infrastructure with day care center, parent-child room, cafeteria and holiday care makes it easier to combine life and work. The green campus offers opportunities to relax or work outdoors. There are plans to expand outdoor sports such as a fitness parcours or a beach volleyball court. To strengthen social interaction, summer parties, the campus cinema or concerts are held on campus.

The Welcome and Family Office assists all newcoming scientists with formalities of getting employed at the Max Delbrück Center and moving to Germany, even before they actually arrive. This include matters related to e.g. insurances, taxes, finding suitable accommodation, a child day-care facility or parenting benefits counselling.
