Dear members of the MDC Friends, dear colleagues at the MDC and on campus,

We are delighted that the MDC Friends will once again be showing a series of six films throughout 2026 as part of our campus cinema programme. We cordially invite you to attend. Screenings will take place at 6 p.m. in Axon 1 on the Buch campus or in the large seminar room at BIMSB at our Mitte location. The annual programme and dates for the Buch and Mitte campuses can be found in the attachment.

This year, the campus cinema's overarching theme is ‘Commitment, education and humanity – people change the world’.

Our annual programme is dedicated to people and movements that have initiated social change with courage, knowledge and commitment. We will be showing documentaries and feature films about educational equality, women's rights, humanity, science and political change. The film series invites viewers to look at global challenges from different perspectives and to engage in conversation about responsibility, solidarity and moral courage.

Next week, on 10 February, we invite you to a screening of Davis Guggenheim's documentary (USA, 2015) ‘He named me Malala’. The film is a powerful portrait of Nobel Peace Prize winner Malala Yousafzai, who was put on the Taliban's death list in her home country of Pakistan. Malala was on her way home in the Swat Valley when she was seriously injured by a gunshot to the head while riding her school bus. The then 15-year-old, who turned 18 in July 2015, came under the Taliban's scrutiny along with her father because of their advocacy for girls' right to education. The attack sparked a global outcry. She miraculously survived and is now a global activist for girls' right to education as co-founder of the Malala Fund.

Admission is free, donations are welcome! As always, there will be an opportunity to chat before and after the film at ‘Wine & Cheese’.
