Scientist, Drug Design - Molecular Design

In the past 12 months, the company has doubled in size, signed a multibillion-dollar platform deal with AstraZeneca, opened a New York office, listed on NASDAQ and gained designation as ‘Best Place to Work’ in the UK and Germany, as well as having 2 clinical stage compounds in development. Our technology is based on GalNAc targeted siRNA with the aim of expanding the scope of our discovery efforts through the use of extra-hepatic targeting ligands and using the power of vast genomic databases to augment target identification and development.

Role Overview

In the role you are part of the Drug Design team in the Molecular Design department. You work together with scientists and research associates within the team and also collaborate with members of other departments (e.g., Chemistry, Bioinformatics, Drug Delivery, Legal). We are looking for self-motivated individuals to join us in developing Silence Therapeutics’ next generation technology platform.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct experimental work in the Drug Design team
  • Develop assays for small RNA and RISC analysis
  • Develop own scientific hypotheses; plan and execute experiments
  • Analyse and document data
  • Participate in discussions and communicate results internally and externally
  • Contribute to scientific presentations, publications, and patent applications

Person Specification

The Scientist will be able to demonstrate the following competencies and behaviours:

  • High motivation and flexibility to expand existing skills and knowledge
  • Enjoy working in multidisciplinary teams and reaching joint goals
  • Active participation in identifying new ways of doing things

Skills/Competencies

  • Either Master’s degree or a PhD degree obtained in 2021
  • Thorough experience with RNA-based methods (e.g., qRT-PCR, RNA quantification)
  • Thorough experience with protein-based methods (e.g., SDS-PAGE, ELISA, immunoprecipitation)
  • Extensive experience in cell culture
  • Experience with RNA sequencing is beneficial
  • Thorough understanding of small RNA biology and the siRNA mechanism
  • Good command of Excel
  • Fluent in English and with good proficiency in German
