Wissenschaftliches Symposium 25 Jahre MDC: Breaking Barriers in Molecular Medicine

Peer Bork, Aaron Ciechanover, Patrick Cramer, Patrik Ernfors, Amanda Fisher, Reinhard Jahn, Sebastian Kadener, Maike Sander

Dear colleagues,
In 2017, the Max Delbrück Center for Molecular Medicine (MDC) in Berlin is celebrating its 25th anniversary. We would like to invite you to our Silver Jubilee Symposium “Breaking Barriers in Molecular Medicine,” which will take place at the MDC Conference Center on November 30, 2017.

The MDC was established in 1992 with the mission to investigate the biological processes that underlie human health and diseases and to translate this knowledge into clinical practice. Since the institute's founding, biomedical research has undergone dramatic changes. The sequencing and analysis of the human genome, new developments in stem cell biology and genome editing techniques, and the introduction of -omics and single-cell technologies have led to new biological concepts and medical applications. However, treating and preventing cancer, cardiovascular, metabolic and neurodegenerative diseases still hold major challenges.

Modern biomedical research relies on collaborations across the boundaries of disciplines and institutions. At our Silver Jubilee Symposium, leading experts from a range of biomedical areas which have close ties to the MDC will present state of the art lectures. The speakers on the program will be Peer Bork, Aaron Ciechanover, Patrick Cramer, Patrik Ernfors, Amanda Fisher, Reinhard Jahn, Sebastian Kadener and Maike Sander.

Together we will discuss new concepts and strategies in molecular medicine which might have the potential to “break barriers” and pave the way for clinical applications in the near future. We look forward to seeing you at the Symposium in November!
